ClearView Audio/Video Home Networking Services

Nearly a decade and a half ago, home networks were primarily found in the realm of technologically advanced– most households did not have or need more than one computer. But now in addition to using computers for e-mail, families use them for schoolwork, shopping, home working, instant messaging, downloading music and videos along with playing games via a games console. In a household with more than one computer, a home network often becomes a necessity rather than a technical luxury.

A home network is simply a method of allowing computers to communicate with one another. If you have more than one computer in your home, a network can efficiently allow them to share:

  • Files and documents
  • An Internet connection
  • Printers, print servers and scanners
  • Audio, TVs, and game systems
  • Networked media devices

The two most popular home network types are wireless and ethernet (hardwired cables) networks. In both of these network types the router does most of the work by directing the traffic between the connected devices. By connecting a router to your broadband you can also allow multiple computers or devices to share one connection to the Internet. This can include computers media devices or game consoles. Wireless networks can be slower than a hardwired solution and should be protected using an encryption key, to stop other local wireless users seeing and connecting via your network.

If you are going to connect your network to the internet via a network or direct connection, you'll need a firewall. Many new routers combine wireless and ethernet technology and also include a hardware firewall. A firewall is simply a program or hardware device that protects your network from malicious users and offensive web sites. Many software firewalls block all incoming information by default and prompt you for permission to allow the information to pass.

ClearView AV will supply, install, and configure a network solution to meet your needs, while ensuring that your home is fully future-proofed allowing further upgrades without the need for further network intervention.
